I've started my old sketch-a-day thing back up (as of January 7th). It's been a couple years and I wanted to see how long I could go this time.

For the month of December, I found myself constantly doodling falling men of the 1930's.

i've been working on a bunch of items i'm calling the "corporal punishment" series. they all basically deal with trying to make it through childhood in a family of seven kids on a bricklayer's income.

this is called "coaster buggy"

pencil scanned into photoshop for color and arrangement.

Very cool! I really like the fun/playful nature of these. I hope the comics paper--if we get it going--will have a good number of alternative/experimental comics/approaches.

A couple more. Now that the liquor store business is slowing down I can get away with doing more sketches at work, so that's exactly what I've been doing.

I'm working on a comic for Comic Phonebook (formerly known as Shoujo Phonebook) anthology, managed by SCAD students.

Wish me luck!

I started up Dawn's Dictionary Drama again, and have been using words given to me by folks at conventions. Today's word was from our own Patrick Lewis:

This was a bear to color. I was having problems making it feel translucent yet giving it just enough color to pop.

Looks great. Really strong sense of movement without using any gimmicks just solid drawing. Love it.

December 31st was supposedly an awesome, once-in-20-years, New Years Eve blue moon.  I say "supposedly," because it was too cloudy to see a thing.  This was the result.

it's timely...
I've actually written a little bit of this just as a joke, and it's actually kind of a lot of fun. Maybe I should go into comedy writing...

Trying out Strathmore 500 series paper.  I had been using the 300 series for ages, but the last couple pads of it I bought would bleed really bad when i used nibs. So tried the 500, so smooth, good stuff if you use nibs. This will be my paper of choice from now on. It even took some acrylic paint.
