LORD OF THE FLIES - Whitman Drama
« on: February 10, 2014, 09:15:23 AM »
Whitman Drama proudly presents LORD OF THE FLIES, their theater production of the acclaimed – and terrifying  - novel  by William Golding - -  with an all-male and an all-female cast.

Whitman’s production of LORD OF THE FLIES will be fusing the dynamic art forms text, drama, (fight) movement, acrobatics, dance and music while at the same time incorporating imaginative lighting, sound and multi-media effects.
Exploring traits like savage instinct, masculinity, rage and jealousy from both an all-male and an all-female cast, Whitman Drama will be putting on two different shows. Both boys and girls will use the same script and the same staging, but the actors’ delivery of the lines and the meaning behind the words, together with the simple fact that boys and girls do react different in any given situation, is going to be the biggest distinction. The girls will be fierce and terrifying. The boys will be more traditional but extremely intelligent. And nobody will be holding back…

On Thursday Feb 27th and Saturday March 1st an all-male cast will be on stage (7 pm) and on Friday Feb 28th ( 7pm) and Sunday March 2nd (2pm) an all-female cast will perform.

Performances will be at the Whitman auditorium located at 7100 Whittier Blvd. Bethesda, MD, 20817.

After a group of schoolchildren survive a massive plane crash, what starts as a classic desert island adventure with fun and games, quickly becomes a struggle for survival that sees the teens descend into tribalism and bloodthirsty barbarity in a nightmarish world…. Two opposing tribes: one that strives for civility and another that delights in savage violence. The competition escalates into a dangerous, frightening climax, as this thrilling classic looks into the darker parts of human nature.
Adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams, Nobel Prize Winner William Golding's LORD OF THE FLIES, is one of the most celebrated novels of modern times. LORD OF THE FLIES IS a shocking dramatization of the good and evil within us all.

Advised: 13+ for violence and language.

Whitman Drama is an award-winning high school drama department directed by theater professional Christopher Gerken. It produces a fall musical (with a student Pit Orchestra), a winter play, and a student-directed talent show in the spring.
Whitman Drama is structured very much like a conservatory program. The department's primary focus is on the process of artistic development rather than the end-product. Students are responsible for ALL aspects of theater production. They participate in multiple theater components — everything from on-stage performance to design to technical and production management. www.whitmandrama.com.
