Does it have to be about our own personal relationship with our home/surroundings, or could it be more universally about the concept of home and how it effects, say...  geopolitical events?

With our original development of the concept the intent was pointed towards the artist's reaction to his own surroundings / home.  Personally, I can see the importance and impact of the idea of home on an international or at least external scale, so I think it would be interesting to look at the work.  Do you have particular ideas that you're working with?

I would like to offer a limited Yes to what you ask, with the limitation that the work will fit with the other curated images.  That of course would be up to the curators  That said, the artist's view of home is a very lose requirement to begin with.  We do want the work to have a sense of self with in it all.

On the safe side, I would want to see your view of home but I wouldn't want to exclude your vision of the world's view.  This is starting to fall into the realm of semantics and it's really hard to say with out seeing the work.

Hmm...  well, most of my work is about my own personal reaction to my surroundings, but the one I was thinking of is more directly about having a sense of place, which I thought might be more applicable. This is it if you care to see it:

Yikes...  big.
Sorry about that.

Actually now that I'm looking at it, this is outside the scope of your concept for the show. I'll see if I have something more appropriate.

Thanks for posting this Call.  I registered a couple of days ago and can't wait to submit some new pieces for review.  Sounds fun.

Some interesting thoughts on the sense of place at
http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wypr/arts.artsmain?action=viewArticle&sid=11&id=1509345

Now I need to track down Rebecca Solnit's "A Field Guide to Getting Lost" for the other side of the coin...

We're making progress!   A great number of artists have registered, and we want more.
These shows are simply amazing.  I can't begin to describe the excitement of putting an event together like this, and then taking place.
With around 3,000 square feet these shows are large and intimate at the same time.  We draw a great crowd and the energy is amazing.

This show is taking it to the next step with an amazing and quite personal theme.
I can't wait to see the art.

I would say limit your entries to 5 or so to save the curators.  It's also best for everyone to consider adding some text.  Because we want to understand your personal thought process with each work of art.

For those who haven't read the whole thread and are still confused, go back and read these posts:

The first post:
http://artdc.org/forum/index.php?topic=12254.0

"Be literal if you like.  We're looking for art that relates to location.  ZIP Codes, Area Codes, IP addresses or your interpretation of your home location.  Frankly there's a hell of a lot of room for flexibility and creativity with in the call."
http://artdc.org/forum/index.php?topic=12254.msg68502#msg68502

"...focus on "The ZIP Code Show is about artists and their relationships with their surroundings."
To me, it excited me to think about art that relates to your home, your surroundings, your space."
http://artdc.org/forum/index.php?topic=12254.msg68524#msg68524

There's quite a bit of discussion about the show theme.
You can be literally, or take it far out.  There's a lot of room to play.
We're trying hard not to dictate an exact definition of what we are looking for because we don't want to contaminate your creativity with our ideas.

Read what I wrote, and if you like it, great.  If not.  Re-read the first sentence of the first post and think about it.  Let it ruminate, and come up with your own thought process about, "The ZIP Code Show is about artists and their relationships with their surroundings."

Perhaps a bit TOO literally, but I have actually started a map http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&source=embed&msa=0&msid=108987813198302786057.00046eab2c710f742785a&ll=38.918819,-77.198181&spn=0.641081,0.823975&t=p&z=9 to think about my personal geography.

I went through the registration, but never got a follow up e-mail, is anyone else having that problem? I'll send a PM to Henrik as well.
