CALL FOR ENTRIES

Come closer. Strip away the distractions, fill the frame. We want to see your most revealing portraits. Vulnerable or intense, the composition is so tight that the entire head cannot be seen.  Emotion lives within the confines of your face.  Let's remove all distractions.  Remove the world, the body, our outfits, differences and display photographs composed of nothing but the face or a fraction thereof.

We are working with Pamela Viola to curate an exhibition entitled "Closer."  The show will include the work of a group of 5 photographers depicting the impact of macro compositions on portraits.

Submission Requirements:

1.  Only photographic works on paper are eligible.
2.  Open to artdc.org members only - it's free to register!

Thank you to the both of you.  Pamela is an awesome artist and has a great view of the photo world.  I look forward to her take on this project.  I particularly enjoy situations when some artists get to switch roles and work as a curator.   There are a ton of great portraits out there, but her idea of "Come closer"  really puts a unique spin on things.  I can see the gallery filled with very strong close up portraits showing nothing but the face, or a fraction there of.  This is going to be a great show.  We know time is short, so please work quickly and submit a few images if you don't already have a few.

sounds cool. i don't think i have anything that fits this description to enter (my portraits tend to include a bit more than just the face), but good luck with it!

eta: unless i enter jack's head. it's a portrait of a portrait of many portraits. say that  5 times fast!

That's exciting.  I like that image.  Please do submit the requested information.
Let the curator take a look.  There's a method to our madness.

Submit 5 images, and the requested details so she can look at everything together.

Jennifer, the great thing about photography is that anyone can go out to Best Buy, spend under $100.00 and get a start of the art digital. My red 12 megapixel, I got off QVC for $97.50 with S&H. Once you push the button, believe it or not, good or bad, you become a photographer. Come over to the dark side.

Note the minor change:

The show will run July 11, 2009 to August 8, 2009.
The show will run to Saturday the 8th instead of Sunday the 9th.

I would like to remind artdc.org photographers.  This is a fine opportunity to get your work in a gallery show.  All photographers have to be artdc.org members which is a benefit to our scene.  Don't miss this opportunity. While we've had a photo show earlier this year, there will probably be a significant wait till the next photo show.  Do this one now!

The 12th is just the submission deadline.  The work doesn't have to be printed, mounted and frammed.  Just images.  Shoot some images tonight and email them!

Let me remind the world, the application fee is free.  That means it doesn't cost anything.
