Call for art for home page shows - Concrete, Glass, or Steel.
« on: August 12, 2008, 02:15:18 PM »
artdc.org we'd like to collect a database of images to curate a new home page show.  If your work includes the use of elemental materials like concrete, glass, or steel, please upload new work, and be sure to include the material keywords in the keyword blank with no commas.  Only spaces.  ie: concrete steel glass ....

More to follow with theme requests for curators in the near future!

You know in our peak month we received over 2.5 million hits.
I think that's a good reason to upload some more art for a chance to be in or curate the next home page theme'd show.

2.5 million hits?  That's a lot....  you know work has even sold because of the home page shows..

Okay, seriously, I know I'm one of the offenders, but it's been read 89 times and no one has responded?

So here's me responding:

I haven't made anything new in concrete since before AOM.  I will see what I can get going in the next couple of weeks....and post new images.

this is the best i can do for you.... i make my frames from scratch using metal leaf , clay , glass ,marbles, plaster and wood filler. Sometimes leather and other materials depending on the piece     It may not be what you are looking for but they are highly textured and speak for themselves. This one is for my piece Consolation , where the devil is consoling a very depressed somebody. My old boss said it looks like something i dragged out of a sewer lol but i know he meant it in a good way.

I know I have shown this one around here before, but anyway here it is again.  Actulally I may have already offered this one up for this idea.  If so, sorry about that.  At any rate it contains concrete, grass, nails, ceramic, caulk, carpet, cloth, foam insullation, dirt, andddddd I think thats about it...   oh, and paint...

Excellent guys.  Thanks.  So let's expand things even further.  I'd like to look at any interesting sculptural material use.  Leather?  Latex?  Acrylic Medium.  If we take a look at all of the process oriented art out there, does your work stand out because of your material methodology?

Thanks Erin!  :smt001 I was watching the Passion of Joan and they said her name was Jeannette but they called her Jean for short. That movie blew me away , made me want to paint her even more.

jesse,

i was under the impression that you were going to pull stuff from the gallery for this theme. were we supposed to post our own work?

The goal is to have everything in the gallery.  Then as other shows go, we as a group make suggestions from the gallery.  My personal goal was to have a "pre-call" to things uploaded to the gallery, then I make some suggestions to get people's minds moving, then we curate as a group.  Though it seems not many people associated with artdc.org are into these materials (or they haven't respond yet).  (my terminology may not be correct, but work like the Andy Goldsworthy work at the NGA www.nga.gov/exhibitions/goldsworthyinfo.shtm , Richard Serra, and Anselm Kiefer all provide great inspiration for me, and I'm looking for a little of that with in artdc.org )...

BlueFacedKiller, I'm not discounting your post!  I'm so pleased to see that you're using cool materials!  I was just posting in generalities here.
