resizing photos to 1920 x 1920..help?
« on: January 26, 2010, 09:46:17 PM »
Hi All:

Yes I am still alive.  :)  Although I resize photos often for different artist calls, for this call, they have to be resized to 1920 x 1920.  If I change one axis size to 1920, the other one changes to keep things in proportion.  The sad thing is I did it 3 years ago since I have old pics on the cafe artist site from old things I applied to but can't figure out what I did.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

 Cindy

What software are you using?

If you are using photoshop...
Resize the image, keep the aspect ratio the same, make the largest dimension 1920.
Then adjust the canvas size to 1920x1920.

FWIW, if this is for a jury submission, be sure that the spec really says that - it could be saying a maximum of 1920x1920, or 1920 pixels on the long dimension.

Also, FWIW, the ZAPPlication folks changed their recommendation from 1920x1920 with black bars, to just 1920 on the long dimension.

Finally, if they really do want a square image, when following Jesse's suggestion for canvas size, make sure you make the new space black.
