A collaboration between Jane Franklin Dance and Tom Teasley percussion,
Blue Moon/Red River presents two artistic mediums together in an athletic, interactive performance of music and dance. Live percussion and physical storytelling convey the sounds and wide spaces of the American Southwest. The mythic idea of 'frontier' traces the emotion that the landscape and its history generate. Animals, moon and sun, water spirals are recreated in a vibrant animated video backdrop to reference the many ancient petroglyphs of Canyon de Chelly and the Four Corners area.
Tom Teasley plays live original music combining acoustic percussion with the electronics of modern technology. The 11 dancers of Jane Franklin Dance frame creation myth, forming organic and human landscapes that dwell in persistent sound reminiscent of the winds of the Southwestern plains. Dancers evoke the effort to scale to the top of a mesa as the Aqua-sonic, an instrument with water inside, creates bravado for a marking ritual that explores the desire to belong.
