There is also another really large artist studio project going up in brookland/Edgewood. Right by the metro. 27 studios. Should be cool. Still under construction though.

the brentwood art center is officially the Gateway Art center, so the link should be removed ( it's a place in LA)
i think a. salon has officially changed it's name to DC Art Studios.

i'm sorry to read that you feel that there is so much less community mindedness in this years artomatic.
i've done most of the artomatics and i don't feel it's much different than ones in the past....besides the absence of sean welker's awesomeness....

The energy of having 3 in a row in 2007, 2008 2009 was pretty fun, intense,  and made it easier to keep up with folks, especially people that only participate in the dc art world through artomatic.
but not having had one in 3 years has made it very exciting for me. many peoples work changed so much! it's great to see new pieces, new styles, even new media for some ( looking at erin antognoli). it's great to see old friends. still, many of my friends from AOM i continue to see at openings, open studios, lectures, WPA events, etc... .

And all these new participants in artomatic allow you to meet so many more new artists! i've met a ton of cool and really talented people this year. Some i have met since the last artomatic but this is the first time i've seen their work. to me, the energy is outstanding, so i'm saddened to see that you have been disappointed. i hope the last week and a half of AOM brighten up for you.

to me a "professional artist" is one that wears fancy shoes when they make their work. possibly a vest.
never a t-shirt. that's so amateur.

Those are some of my favorite pieces in the entire building. Was thinking about how I could produce something with that backlight technique. I'm actually very interested in how you put the backlight together. I left a business card in your sign in book hoping to hear from the artist. This artdc website is really great for connecting artists. When you will you back at AOM? Would love to stop by to hear more on your piece.

thanks michael. i'll be at AOM on saturday and sunday. i used an LED panel. i needed a thin, low heat, low wattage, long lasting perfectly even light. if you don't need that, you can do it a lot more economically.

Marcia Fry's assemblages, Bird Brain and Candidate.  No reason, just drawn to them and find them nicely executed.

i freaking LOVED her pieces.

2002 ( my second artomatic, my photos from the 2000 AOM never made it to digital)
I had a lot of time to install and thought it would be fun to paint my entire room, add molding to the walls, draw frames around my pieces, draw the titles and embellish all the elements existing in the room.

i regrettably missed 2004.

2007
i was able to get a room with 2 other artists, Rania Hassan and Kirk Waldroff. We chose to paint a uniform color and stagger our pieces. we added nice ikea lights and kept the fluorescents off to create a nice vibe. the first photo is a column in the room that i plastered and stenciled.
