Exhibit Dates: February 2-25, 2018
Opening Reception: Friday, February 2 from 7-9pm

The Art˛ (Art Squared) exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery explores the synergy of art with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This show runs February 2-25, 2018, and overlaps with National Engineering Week and includes workshops to engage STEM-interested public of all ages. Come see how creativity drives the mind to explore and inspires scientists to ask questions and search for understanding. Principles of symmetry, geometry and measurements are often used in creating beautiful artwork. Likewise, scientific disciplines can inspire and inform art, as with anatomy in figure paintings, geology in landscapes, meteorological events in dramatic compositions, and physics in 3D installations. This show is about pushing the artist to new levels of expression. Join us at the Opening Reception on Friday, February 2, 2018, 7-9pm.

The Art˛ exhibit is at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: Thursdays 12-6pm, Fridays 12-9pm, Saturdays 12-9pm, and Sundays 12-6pm. The gallery is free, open to the public, and handicap accessible. “Clowning Around” Art Exhibit

Exhibit Dates: August 4 - 27, 2017
Opening Reception: Friday, August 4 from 7-9pm

Clowns have been the subjects of paintings and graphics for centuries. Clowning Around is an exhibit that reveals local artists’ inner clowns through art in fun, playful, sadistic, comedic, and tragic ways. Clowns have always evoked a variety of emotions from people. Many people are happy clown believers, drawn towards fanciful circus graphics or sympathetic weeping hobo clowns. Others prefer their clowns to be sinister figures lurking in dark alleys. Whether it’s a childlike whimsy or journey into a carnival of crazy clowns, it’s your world to explore.

Join us in this romp with a truly American genre at the opening reception on Friday, August 4 from 7-9pm to enjoy the unveiling of the exhibit and meet the curators, artists, and other art appreciators.

The Clowning Around art exhibit is at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: First Thursdays (April-September) 12-9pm, Thursdays 12-6pm, Fridays 12-9pm, Saturdays 12-9pm, and Sundays 12-6pm. The gallery is free, open to the public, and handicap accessible.

6:30pm – Opening Reception featuring:

    Heavy hors d’oeuvres
    Soda and wine

“Red, White and Tuna,” the comedy based in Tuna, Texas, performed by The Little Theatre of Alexandria actors
Champagne and cupcake Intermission, and the Art Raffle Drawing!

The Little Theatre of Alexandria’s “Red, White and Tuna” comedy production is based at the Lion’s Club in Tuna, Texas, where Patsy Cline never dies, and the residents never stop listening to OKKK, the local radio station. In this production, two actors again create the memorable population of Tuna, including a few hippies who have returned to their roots for their high school reunion. Is Tuna ready for them? Join the wild ride of quick changes and comedic characterizations. Hilarity ensues.

What do a “fish art” raffle, a Tuna Comedy and a champagne reception have in common?  They all lend fun, food and funds to the celebration of Del Ray Artisans’ 25 years of making art and supporting artists in Alexandria.  The “fish art” pieces on exhibit for raffle are by Del Ray Artisans (featuring works from Linda Elliff, Theresa Kulstad, Karen Schmitz, Guy Jones, John Bordner and Angela Calos).  Purchase raffle tickets at the reception and drop them in the fish bowl in front of the art piece you hope to win. The raffle drawing will be at the conclusion of the Champagne Celebration Intermission. Raffle tickets will also be available at the gallery before the show, and you need not be present to win.

Speak Your Mind Art Exhibit at Del Ray Artisans
Opening Reception: Friday, May 5 from 7-9pm
Exhibit Dates: May 5-28, 2017

They say “a picture is worth a thousand words.”  The Speak Your Mind art exhibit celebrates the relationship between art and the human mind as a form of nonverbal communication.  For some, visual arts are a platform for advocacy, a way to raise awareness of a social cause, or to express a political message.  Art is a means of self-expression when it portrays emotions, thoughts, or a state of mind.  For others, the process of making art is itself a form of therapy to improve mental health or as an exercise in mindfulness.  This show coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month.

Please join us for the opening reception on Friday, May 5 from 7-9pm to meet the curators and  some of the artists and enjoy the unveiling of the exhibit.

The Speak Your Mind exhibit runs May 5–28, 2017 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: First Thursdays (April-September) 12-9pm, Thursdays 12-6pm, Fridays 12-9pm, Saturdays 12-9pm, and Sundays 12-6pm. The gallery is free, open to the public, and handicap accessible.

For more information, please visit www.DelRayArtisans.org/exhibits or contact the curators Kath Gayle (kathgaylemail@gmail.com) and Rebecca Barnes (atermofart@gmail.com) or Director of Curating Kathy Turner (Curating@DelRayArtisans.org).

Opening Reception: Friday, March 31 from 7-9pm
Exhibit Dates: March 31 - April 30, 2017
“Breaking the Glass Ceiling – The Sky’s the Limit” reflects on the metaphor “breaking the glass ceiling”, pushing through a tough, not quite invisible barrier that keeps many from reaching their full potential or their dreams beyond a certain level in a hierarchy or in society. Breaking glass, breaking barriers, reaching beyond traditional boundaries, stretching beyond one’s own and society’s current limits, only accepting the limits of an endless sky have been a theme for many artists and reflect a very current theme. The exhibit runs from March 31 through April 30, 2017 at Del Ray Artisans gallery. Please join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, March 31 from 7-9pm.

This year Del Ray Artisans celebrates 25 years of supporting visual artists; providing equal access to all has always been at the center of its mission. Inclusion of all to provide a space to advance beyond set boundaries is as important today as it was 25 years ago.

“Breaking the Glass Ceiling – The Sky’s the Limit” is at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: First Thursdays (April-September) 12-9pm, Thursdays 12-6pm, Fridays 12-9pm, Saturdays 12-9pm, and Sundays 12-6pm. Opening Reception: Friday, March 3 from 7-9pm
Exhibit Dates: March 3-26, 2017
Del Ray Artisans welcomes the strange, odd, and out of perspective: fish eye lens, mirror images, strange colors, impossible structures, pigs that fly, animals that dance. “Through The Looking Glass” is an ode to the childhood cult classic with a personal twist. Artists bring their personal story of tumbling down the rabbit hole and the journey traveled. Summoned forth are the most elegant and colorful Jabberwockies, chess pieces fighting to the death, and wild toothy grins. An exclusive smattering of unique, awe inspiring artwork, that knocks the socks off mundane, commonplace images.

“Through the Looking Glass” is a collection of art from local artists that captures the beautifully bizarre inner workings of the mind. Together we revisit childhood nightmare-ish fantasies, laced with peculiar characters, and perplexing backgrounds. The exhibit runs March 3-26, 2017. Join us for the opening reception on Friday, March 3 from 7-9pm.
