I've been posting artist opportunities, calls for submission, contests, etc, for awhile, now. I'm curious what you think of them, and if anyone actually uses them. Do you check here often to see what is new? Have you submitted work or entered shows after reading about them here? Were they accepted?
Sometimes I don't post all of the calls I come across, because either they are for work that I haven't seen anyone on the forum work in very much (pottery or jewelry, for example). What do you want to see?
Most of the posts come from a deadlines list I subscribe to, myself, and random websites I've found over the years. If you know of others that aren't posted here http://artdc.org/forum/index.php?topic=364.0 or here http://artdc.org/forum/index.php?topic=2259.0 , let me know and I'll be sure to check them out, too, and make them available.
Thanks! Angela :smt024

Angela, this is an incredibly useful piece of the board...I look at it all the time, have submitted stuff, participated in events, etc. Thanks for keeping this so up to date with so many ops!
-
I love the listings. I read them and am working up the focus to submit some stuff. Thanks.
-
I see a lot of attention in this section. You can always look at the stats and the number of views.. Keep up the good work!
-
Love it! Keep it up!!!! :smt041
-
Awesome.
I watch how many views certain "subjects" get and sometimes don't post more of that type if no one looked at it.
-
Good idea! Very Good idea!
-
How about residencies and jobs? I usually post when they're local or if the residency is short, something someone can do on vacation.
-
I would think those local to the DC area would be very attractive to many users..
-
I post all the DC-area opps I see...and, some not so local, but are in neighboring states.
-
Angela, Thanks - I appreciate this very much and have found it very useful. I'm a glass artist and enjoy reading about all the opportunities. I've had pieces accepted to several shows that I wouldn't have known about otherwise.

Now that's exciting to hear about. Which shows? We'd love to have some feed back. Because it feels nice, and to show to others as success stories.
Thanks so much for the reply!
-
Heck yeah! Let us know! :smt041

you're doing an awesome job, angela! this is one of the boards i check most frequently! i entered and got into a show via a posting you did here, and as a result of that, found light leaks magazine, and as a result of that will be writing an article about lo-fi photography in dc for them. so yeah, that right there has been reason enough for me!
-
WOOHOO! :smt039
-
would it be helpful to post job listings here too?
I've been finding some interesting ones recently.
-
I think it would definitely be useful to post job openings here too. I've had a few people ask me if Artdc includes job listings for artists.
So go ahead, John. Post away!! :smt024
-
Anyone can post!!! If you have info, please post it!
-
Hi Angela,
I am a jewelry designer and would love to see some postings related to that. Especially stores, galleries that accept jewlery.
thanks,
sonia
-
Great! I'll make sure I post them when I find'em! :)
-
I love this section! Fantastic job!
I just have one suggestion for job postings: would be great to have them listed in a different section (not Artist Opps)... create a new one Job Opps in the Arts...
-
YES YES YES....txs so much for taking the time for posting "call for entry "....i read it all the time! and even if i don't always find something that applies to my art specifically, i always like reading what it happening out there....we artists need all the ways of knowing "what's going on in the art world" that we can get.
kudos to you for doing this...artists stand together!

I'd be glad to create a job section, if there's enough volume. Say, if there were a few posts a week. In the mean time we could create a standard title for openings to avoid confusion. say **JOB** as a prefix to the subject...?
-
I'll make sure to label job openings as a JOB in the subject!!
-
Angela, you've created an incredible resource. I visit often and have entered and been accepted to shows as a result of your postings. Thank you!
-
GREAT to hear! :smt004
-
i know angela does like 99% of the posting here... but i would love to see opportunities separated between local, regional, national and international.
-
There are several ways we could go about this.
2 boards only visible to logged in users
A sub board for non local topics, but this requires more clicking and can be annoying.
Or we could sticky the local topics so the appear first and/or add a tag to the subject.
Say start the subject with **local** or...?
-
I do try to put some indicator in the subject line if the opportunity is local. What I don't want is for this to end up being a pain in the ass for me, cuz I"ll just stop posting them. Can we just keep this simple? I'll continue to indicate if the opp is local, and start adding the state where the show will be into the subject line.
-
angela,
hard to argue with that
:smt001
i do love the *local* thanks for adding that.
-
Angela, you are right! And you do great things. I know many people are quite happy to have this resource!
-
thats awesome thanks!!!!!!!
:smt041

Heh, I realize I just flooded the new posts with opportunties, but I'm just getting caught up with the, myself. And, sitting here watching football is just an excuse to devote the time. I hope someone takes advantage of them, especially the local opps.
Please let us know if you get into any! ;)
-
I check this list about once a week, very helpful! Thanks for all the work you put into it, Angel!
-
Angela,
Yes - keep posting. THANK YOU.
Juried shows, residencies, new venues seeking artists, jobs etc. All good stuff.
Also, I've just recently become interested in the idea of a residency. Although I'm not specifically searching for one this year, it's definately exciting to see postings for them ... just to learn what a typical residency is about. Regarding location: It seems like local artists could be interested in out of town residencies as well. I've seen residencies that last for only a few weeks - a working professional can use vacation to do that. So, if you see out of town opportunities feel free to post them.
Have you already posted this link:

Cool!
I do see a lot of residency calls...I mainly post ones that are semi-local, though, based on the number of views that I've seen others get in the past. I'll make sure to post more :)
-
This is awesome! I've become a "lurker" on this site now, but I am here and this is a thread I come to the most.
-
Thank you for your work.
-
Yeah. We've got to give thanks to Amy too..
She's been working hard to find new resources for opportunities and editing out completed opportunities.
-
I also check this section often. It is definitely useful! I will try to post calls as I find them as well. :)
-
Hey there-
Often it's only the complaints that find themselves onto the internet, so I hope to buck that trend by thanking all of you who post calls for entry. Giving other creative folks in your area a heads-up only generates a better quality of work in our community, and that pushes the scene forward.
Also, I'm really liking how the most recent Calls for Entry have the due date in the subject line. That's a great idea that I hope continues!
That's all I got. Keep faith, share love.

I check this all the time - thank you!
-
Thanks for saying. You're welcome. I'm sure those who post calls for entry will thank you too...!
-
how about opportunities for outsider art and an emerging art? I don't many of those opportunities on the board.
-
We’ll keep our eyes open for more outsider and emerging events! Thanks for the input. If you see something, please post it! I love to think about this as a group exercise so we appreciate the input!
-
how does one get considered for art all night??
-
I'd like to see more outsider or even pop surrealist art on the site as well. It seems that Art Whino tries to address the genre, their sponsoring of the Richmond mural project was cool but there is certainly room for improvement. We've lost the Irvine Contemporary which often had some underground influenced art; think he had some David Cho, Shepard Fairey, etc. Would love to hear some ideas.
-
Thank you ever so much for providing this wonderful resource! I check for updates and new listings every time I visit the artdc site.
