Looking for coffee art.
« on: January 07, 2009, 02:31:05 PM »
So i'm looking for coffee art.  Ie.  art that you made with anything that has anything to do with coffee.  Not what other people made, not youtube videos of other baristas, but art that you have made out of grinds, filters, beans, espresso machines..  Anything...  If you haven't made anything with coffee, i'd love it even more if you went forward, bought some beans, and made some art.  I'd love to have a show with nothing but art made from coffee...

Of cource I want Lexi Involved.  She rocks. :)
Why coffee.  Because I love it.  I now have 2 coffee machines one for a single cup, the other for espresso.

I was sitting here and the computer stareing at nothing but pixels, running materials through my head trying to think of something interesting and different.  I started thinking about green materials, recycled materials, then a vision of coffee grounds on a granite block flashed in my mind's eye, and it hit me, I bet a bunch of great artdc.org artists could create interesting things with coffee.  This could be a whole new movement for art.  Caffeinated art.  Hell photographers can even develop film with Caffeinol.

So i'm looking for coffee art.  Ie.  art that you made with anything that has anything to do with coffee.

I drank a good bit of coffee while creating this piece.
It's even possible that a drop or two of java mixed in with the paint.

No, I never make art with coffee paraphernalia.  Never.  :smt004

But seriously, it would be interesting to me, to see what anyone might be doing with other stuff...

Maybe you could issue a challenge, Jesse? Set it within a certain period of time, for ArtDC artists to create work using only in a material.  Then at the end of that period of time, we could all post images and you could award someone a prize for most successful/interesting/whatever use of X material.

I would love to.  Maybe we could all submit $10 and the winner gets the pool.  Or maybe we could just do it for the sake of doing it.  It's wonderful to be creative!  Let's work on the details.

Hello and Happy New Year all.
Sergio has always used lots of instant coffee in his work-- his solos in Mexico were often said to smell like a coffee shoppe!
In the last years he has started using other things such as ashes and sand, but instant coffee used to be it- along with found objects http://sergiolivosm.com/pinturas.html

One of my thousands of unfinished/"gestating" pieces, made with a lot of coffee and coffe grounds as well as tereyaki sauce, whiskey, pastel, watercolor, and arcylic on a lithograph on rice paper.

not sure if this will count - but i wasn't happy with the stark whiteness of the cheesecloth i used for this piece. so i took my used coffee grounds, some tea, and worcestershire sauce, to give it a bit of color (i wanted to use natural!)

Wow, I love kidkovdrop's piece - really dynamic stuff!! I've been cutting back on coffee big time, after experiencing some related health issues from drinking too much of the stuff, so yesterday I made a "coffee demon", made from dripped and splashed coffee on paper. I cut some of it up, and glued pieces for a collage. Later I pulled a few tricks in Photoshop and Picnik and presto:

Oh, and a few years ago, on a somewhat related note, I made a "Mister Tea", who I'm working on being good friends with again.

Hey, I wrote a fun novel on coffee, with an illustrated cover. It's called National Darkroast Day (www.nationaldarkroastday.com).

Some illustrators from the DC Conspiracy also did some trading cards for the book. Here's a sample one:

Pictures of the other cards are on the site. The illustrators did an amazing job!
