a great loss for Artomatic - Carl Cordell
« on: July 31, 2011, 03:58:36 PM »
Carl, The King of Peeps and a driving force behind Artomatic,  passed away this morning.

Dedicated, driven, and stubborn as hell Carl truly was a big reason Artomatic was able to happen.

I hope there is a kick-ass wake organized for him Artomatic style, with peeps of course! He certainly deserves a helluva send off.

Godspeed Carl, you will be missed.

A wake would be good. I'm thinking that Carl would have liked a flaming art barge in the Anacostia, too.  Carl was hardcore in the best possible way and I'll miss him.

I'm thinking Puns, Peeps, and Porsches

just realized today...the aluminum sculpture I gave Jim Tretick last night was made out of Porsche parts Carl gave me...

today a friend and I toasted Carl and released a bright yellow helium balloon off into the air....we watched it until it disappeared into the sky...

I have several small trees...I want to plant one in his honor...maybe even melt down some of the car parts he gave me into a commemorative plaque

This week pretty much everybody who runs into me is gonna hear Carl's joke about the duck who walked into a bar asking for grapes....

P.S. Barry - did you say Flaming art barge or Flamingo art barge? I think Carl would like both

here's Carl from the 2002 Artomatic:

Flaming Flamingo Art Barge. I'm in! Something has to crash or explode!
I've had dinner with Carl and Carlos almost monthly for the past couple years so I've had my "fix" but he will be sorely missed.
Everyone get your stories ready for whatever service happens in the next week or so.

Good Night Sir.

Jim

my first choice for AOM Frederick is some contraption made of all the car parts Carl has given me over the last few years...in Carls's honor

we always joked that I could make a flying saucer or time machine out of all of it

this october we'll see if it works

I think we have to make a flaming flamingo art barge and float it down the river....it'll give those DHS guys cruising the river something to do & a story to tell

if anyone would like to plant a tree in Carl's memory, I have several.

There are a few pine trees about 2-4 fee tall, an oak tree about 4 feet tall, and a couple sycamores about 1 foot high.

If I kick the bucket

I want everybody to get together

and have a keg party

and then go to the Hirschhorn

and raise hell.

oh no.......i just saw this...i am speechless with loss of carl.
i know he had been sick. he and i talked a lot about it, but last i heard he was doing ok.
i've been away all summer so i guess i wasn't up to date.
i feel terrible.
does anyone know luanne's email/address or phone number? if so can you send it to me in an artdc email.

if there is going to be any artdc/artomatic service for carl please count me in.

carl was a wonderful man...so gentle, kind, caring, giving, cheerful, supportive, loving.....

a big empty space (in the tri-state art area) is created by his absence.

Ah, there seems to be some sentiment

that my remarks might be   :   Tasteless
                                           Crass
                                           Insensitive

Would Carl have disapproved of such levity  ?

One thing we can all agree on -

my Official ArtDC.Org Karma Rating

shall remain

at zero.

On page B-6 of the Washington Post of Thursday 18 August,
    there is an obit for Carl E. Cordell  ;
Porsche specialist  and  member of Artomatic board of directors.

Carl still lives on in my world...

ever since I met him in 2007 he gave me a stream of scrap metal...mostly old Porsche parts

several Porsche pistons are melting in my crucible right now about to be turned into a new sculpture
