20 July – Vejer.

A perfect day, a little bit warmer than the previous days and a totally blue sky. Breakfast on our upper terrace watching the sunrise. Then down the zigzag roads to the flat land leading top the beaches. As we drive we pass fields of drying sunflowers and roaming cattle (this is also cattle raising country) fields of solar panels and fields of wind turbines.

Once in town we walk and Jennifer smelled something good – the groceries and bakeries are small hole in the wall shops often without windows. This shop had flaky chocolate croissants. So we bought one and then off to find coffee. We eventually made the beach.

We walked the beach for over an hour. On this part of the Spanish coast every few hundred yards the nature of the beach changes – wide, cove, family, rocky, windy – so the walk is really fun. As we walked we thought we discovered a unique Spanish cultural group – the mud people. The same kind of people covered in dried grey mud that you find in Africa and other remote regions of the world. We saw groups of both men but mostly women (some bare from the waist up) walking or running toward us. As we neared the far away lighthouse the beach became rocky and we saw groups of people scrapping the surface of what look like volcanic rock and rubbing the grey matter that they scrapped off all over their bodies. No we didn’t join in and assumed that the grey stuff had some alleged beauty benefit.

We fell into the Spanish pattern. Lunch at 2:30.  Lunch, eating outside at a small fish restaurant, with a view of an old church and palm trees, explains why we are not big on eating out when back home. The food here is simple, fresh, of excellent quality and moderately priced. We ate fresh olives, bread, seafood paella and a plate of six sardines grilled with salt and washed it down with a pitcher of sangria. Excellent service – no rush. Cost about $18.

Then we walked lunch off while sharing a homemade iced lemon drink from a nearby café. Time to go back to the beach.
Surely it is the right time to enjoy and relax having fun on the beach..Happy moments of life.
