Hillyer Art Space presents
« on: September 15, 2014, 02:05:10 PM »
Join us for a special film showing in partnership with the Alliance Française de Washington DC and learn about an influential and mysterious modern French artist, Pierre Soulage. Doors open at 6:45; film starts at 7pm!

Film: Le Noir et La Lumière (with English subtitles)

Pierre Soulages' life was guided by a radical idea: invent a wordless painting, free of any representation, visual representation, or even interpretation. In his painting, the black has unsuspected possibilities: black is no longer black. This painting elicits very strong reactions to those who lower their guard, who agree to receive the work, do not try to understand, "to see instead of just looking." In this documentary, we try to understand a part of the "mystery Soulages" the man who was celebrated as a star in the United States in the 50s.

The Alliance Française of Washington, DC is dedicated to providing the highest quality of French language training through a multi-faceted approach that promotes lifelong learning and cultural dialogue in an increasingly multicultural society. -- “A French Heartbeat in the Nation’s Capital”

A donation of $5 is suggested to continue Hillyer's cultural and public programs. Fresh popcorn will be provided!
